Developing your own personal style

And the key points to doing so.

Authenticity in a society where individuality isn’t exactly encouraged can seem difficult when discovering your personal style. The majority are so worried about what other people think of them, that they cannot fathom stepping outside the box before asking if it’s okay first.

To begin developing your own style, you must first train your mind to be sovereign. It starts at the little things like making the habit of asking someone “does this look okay?” before feeling confident in what you’re wearing. The question is, do you think you look okay? If you believe so, to hell with what anyone else thinks.

After deciding you no longer care what people think, your next step will be to do something I typically advise against, which is find an aesthetic or category you resonate with. To get outside of the box we sometimes need to start inside one. My personal favorite way to do this is create a Pinterest board full of outfits you like, or even give off a certain “vibe” you strive to convey. Possibly think of some celebrities whose style you admire, and bounce ideas from there. What is it about their style that you like? Is it the color schemes? the shapes? eccentricity? Allow your brain to flow the answers to you without judgment and create a way for you to implement it in a way that feels “you”.

Vibes while I’m writing

Begin to dive into different color schemes, and speaking of color, do not be afraid of it! A way I’ve began to implement more color into my wardrobe is taking a creative spin on it, using the colors to express myself emotionally or activate different energy/chakra points. There are so many ways to add color in a way that is fun and convey meaning beyond visual pleasure.

Another way I’ve started to draw inspiration is through animated series and movies. Take Bratz or Monster High, for example—both are rich with iconic fashion moments that celebrate individuality and bold self-expression. The characters aren’t just dressed; they’re styled with intention, each look telling a story. I’ve also found inspiration blooming in the nature. The shape of a petal, the color of a sunset, the unexpected harmony of colors in a wildflower bouquet—nature effortlessly offers style cues if you’re paying attention.

Studying the psychology of clothing I have found also helps. Diving into my body type and what compliments that body type has helped me narrow down pieces that work for me, as well as the undertones of my skin, deciphering which colors would look best. Additionally, ask yourself what your limits are, how much skin is too much for you? Do you feel more confident in modest clothing, or do you feel your best when you’re taking risks? Once you answer all of these questions, you should be able to pinpoint an overall direction, or maybe you find that your style is a little all over the place, and that’s okay too! Sometimes I mix my boho pieces with my classic, and throw in a choker to appeal to my alternative/witchy side too. That’s where the fun begins.

But here’s where the alchemy begins. True style—soul-rooted, sovereign style—isn’t just about what meets the eye. It’s about how you feel in what you wear. It’s an extension of your energy, your essence, your inner archetypes. Developing your personal style becomes a sacred practice when you view it as a reflection of your self-concept, your healing, your values. Ask yourself: what version of me am I dressing today? Is it the Priestess? The Muse? The Wild Woman? The Warrior? Clothing becomes more than fabric—it becomes a ritual. A way of weaving your spirit into the physical world. When you start dressing not just for appearances but as a form of embodiment, style becomes a spell… and you, the magician.

One way to merge fashion with soul is to treat your wardrobe like an altar. Every piece holds energy—memories, intentions, moods. Curate it with care. Release what no longer aligns, and keep what reflects who you’re becoming. You can organize by energy: earth tones for grounding, silks and blues for flow, bold prints for fire. Dress with the moon—light layers and whites for New Moons, something magnetic for Full Moons. Let your style follow the rhythm of your spirit. Instead of “what should I wear?” ask, “what do I want to feel today?” Grounded? Expansive? Soft? Let your inner world choose first—then dress in devotion to it.

In the end, personal style isn’t something you find—it’s something you remember. It’s the art of coming home to yourself, layer by layer, thread by thread. When you dress with intention, you’re not just putting on clothes—you’re aligning with your truth, calling your spirit forward, and showing the world who you are without saying a word. Let style be your ritual. Your mirror. Your magic. And most importantly, let it be yours.

Until next time,
